We are delighted to share the news that Form 5 student Teresa has been selected as a finalist in the inaugural ‘4Voices’ public speaking competition. This will be on 30 April 2022. Teresa recorded and submitted a short application video on the theme of 'Making a difference' and was chosen as one of the 12 finalists for this competition from a pool of almost 50 entrants from schools across Spain.
‘4Voices’ is a pioneering collaboration between the public speaking consultancy Educate to Communicate and the leading online parental resource MumAbroad. Their goal is to provide students, undergraduates and young workers and entrepreneurs with the skills to confidently use their voices with the right audience, on the right channel and at the right time
The ‘4Voices’ team will provide comprehensive training on public speaking. Prior to competition day, the finalists will be taught as a group how to transform their idea into a complete 5-minute speech and will be trained in all aspects of public speaking: content creation, attention grabbing openings, transitions, logical flow, strong endings, vocal variety, body language, eye contact, audience connection.
We are sure that she will both enjoy the experience and benefit from this wonderful opportunity
"During mid to late January, I saw some posters around the school for a public speaking competition called 4Voices. We had just been doing public speaking in English for GCSE so it was very good timing because everything was still fresh in my mind. The poster said the theme was 'Make a Difference', at first I was unsure if I would enter because the ideas that came to me weren't the most original. I let time pass without thinking about it, I didn't really think of entering as I was at a loss for good ideas. It was the night before the deadline when I got a burst of creativity and sent in my video, hopeful that maybe...just maybe I'd be chosen as one of the 12 finalists.
We had to wait a week and that afternoon I got an email saying I was chosen!
We have already begun the process of lessons (2 hours every Saturday) to become the best public speakers we can be.
Even though it is ultimately a competition, all 12 of us are working as a team and it is really lovely that I have gotten to meet so many other people my age who have such amazing ideas.
Although we have only had two lessons so far, this week will be our third. I feel like I have learnt a lot that I hadn't yet learnt about public speaking. We have so much more time to get into detail about the important factors.
I am looking forward to competing on the 30th of April! It has been and will continue to be such a wonderful learning experience. I am honoured to have been chosen and to be able to learn so much about something that interests me."
