On the 3rd of March, Form 3 visited the Gaudi exhibition at Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya with Ms Lewis and Mme Thebault.
Form 3 students are currently studying different styles of architecture such as the Bauhaus Modernism of Mies Van der Rohe and the Catalan Modernisme of Antoni Gaudi and will eventually produce a maquette, 3D model inspired by these architects and many others.
They travelled by metro and firstly visited the Mies Van der Rohe Pavilion which was constructed for Barcelona’s international exposition in 1929. The students enjoyed drawing it’s minimalist geometric forms and were impressed by the spectacular use of extravagant materials such as marble, onyx and travertine.
They then experienced a very informative tour of the exhibition of Gaudi’s work and life at MNAC. Students had the opportunity to view a display of over 650 architectural and design objects, drawings, furniture and photographs as if it was Gaudi’s workshop!
