Form 1 students recently enjoyed a wonderful art trip to CaixaForum Barcelona for a guided tour of “Chez Matisse: The Legacy of a New Painting” — a major exhibition running until 16th August 2026.

The exhibition offers a broad and contextualised insight into Henri Matisse’s decisive contribution to modern art, highlighting his innovative approach to colour and his understanding of painting as an autonomous surface, freed from convention. Featuring 95 works drawn largely from the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the show includes 46 paintings by Matisse alongside works by artists he influenced, including Braque, Derain, and Picasso.

The trip provided a rich, hands-on experience that truly brought their classroom art and design lessons to life, deepening their understanding of 20th-century art movements and the formal elements of art.
