Meeting the Firefighters

Junior 1 had an exciting visit to the Vall d’Hebron Fire Station, where the children took part in the interactive workshop “Meeting the Firefighters.” Pupils loved learning all about fire safety, discovering how fire engines and hoses work, and seeing up close the special equipment and uniforms firefighters use.

First, the children listened to a safety briefing and were reminded of some important rules, such as closing doors to prevent smoke from spreading, calling 112 in the event of a fire, and keeping their home address written on a piece of paper so they know where they live in case of an emergency.

They then learned about the different firefighter uniforms and were lucky enough to try on a helmet. The children were shown all of the equipment inside a fire truck, which led to a wonderful follow-up discussion about how firefighting equipment has advanced since the Great Fire of London.

The visit brought their History topic, The Great Fire of London, to life and helped children understand how firefighting and safety have changed over time. It also linked perfectly with their upcoming science topic on materials, making the trip both fun and full of learning.
