As part of the IGCSE Geography course, students are preparing for their upcoming
fieldwork investigations, an essential component of their studies that will be assessed in
the final examinations.
Students conducted an urban study of land use in the heart of Barcelona. Travelling by
public transport, they explored how urban planners are shaping the modern city —

examining patterns of land use, regeneration projects, and the introduction of traffic-
calming measures designed to create safer, more sustainable neighbourhoods.

This hands-on investigation gave students valuable insight into the challenges and
innovations of urban planning, while strengthening their understanding of how cities like
Barcelona are adapting to meet the needs of their residents and the environment.
