Ms Cheetham organised the annual photographic competition, inviting students to submit images of geographic merit. These were accompanied by an explanatory text and could cover any aspect of the subject; human, political or physical geography. Entries were of the highest standard and the winning photograph was Atharva’s depiction of a family wedding in India he attended.

“This photo shows a traditional Indian wedding ceremony where the bride and groom are seated in the centre, surrounded by family members performing rituals. The groom is dressed in a white sherwani with floral garlands, while the bride wears a red lehenga with gold embroidery, symbolizing tradition and prosperity. Family members are involved in a symbolic meet and greet and showering blessings on the bride and groom, which represents respect and honor. The ceremony took place in India, reflecting traditional Kashmiri wedding customs. These events often happen in decorated halls, outdoor spaces, or specially designed venues in urban or semi-urban areas. This image shows how cultural traditions adapt to modern urban settings”
