Ceramics workshop @Studio 56

Our Form 4 GCSE and A Level Fine Art students recently took part in an inspiring ceramics experience at Studio 56 BCN in Barcelona, led by ceramic artist Clare Mc Cracken.

Across two workshops, students designed and sculpted their own ceramic pieces using hand-building techniques before returning two weeks later to glaze their bisque-fired work. The sessions linked directly to their Personal Portfolio projects, giving students the opportunity to develop practical skills, experiment with new techniques and bring their ideas to life in clay!

Clare’s expert guidance and warm encouragement made the experience both enjoyable and rewarding. Working with clay offered more than technical skill development – it also nurtured personal growth and wellbeing in meaningful ways, the students learnt that mistakes are part of the creative journey and that resilience leads to improvement.

The trip provided a rich, hands-on learning opportunity, and students were incredibly proud of their beautifully finished, ceramic pieces.
