The Kensington School Student Council, promotes student leadership through project based activities with specific roles and responsibilities across the various year groups.

The concept of student council is designed around the English curriculum’s intent to create awareness of different viewpoints, create empathy for others and showcase an awareness of the importance of social, cultural, historical, and political contexts. Students are encouraged to make strategic decisions, communicate and collaborate effectively and use their voices to create societal change.

Kensington Council members will be mentored on their strategy and leadership skills and will be encouraged to document their leadership journeys.

This experience can be carried through school life and documented for UCAS and interviews.

Charity Committee

Formed by the pupils in September 2016, the Charity Committee have been responsible for organising events, which have raised thousands of euros to support worthy causes.

Committee events have included bake-sales, costume competitions, a Valentines Day flower delivery service across the whole school and an annual Halloween party. Pupils plan and promote the events throughout the school community, raising awareness as well as money for charities they have selected and researched themselves.

These include aid for Syrian refugees, aid for those affected by floods in Peru and donations to a variety of children’s charities. In addition to their fundraising, they meet every week to prepare sandwiches for Barcelona’s homeless in collaboration with the local charity, Esperança.

Eco Committee

At Kensington, both our Junior and Senior Schools have active Eco-Committees dedicated to environmental stewardship. Members regularly conduct surveys and develop annual action plans focused on key areas such as food waste, recycling, and water conservation.

Each committee includes a parent and staff liaison, working alongside students to champion causes important to them. Through this process, students gain valuable skills in budgeting, advertising, teamwork, and compromise. We take great pride in their ongoing achievements and commitment.

Participating in the Eco-Schools programme provides Kensington with a meaningful framework to enhance sustainability within the school and the wider community, fostering lifelong positive impacts for our students, families, staff, and local authorities.

These committees have a parent and a staff liaison and with them, our students work to promote those causes that are important to them, displaying key skills such as budgeting, advertising and promotion as well as team-work and compromise. We are very proud of what they continue to achieve.

The Eco-Schools programme is the ideal way for Kensington to embark on a meaningful path towards improving the environment in both the school and the local community whilst having a life-long positive impact on the lives of students, families, staff and local authorities.
