Form 1 experiment with a Van de Graaf generator and enjoy the results!

This term in Form 1 Science, students will be studying forces. On their first lesson back after the Christmas holidays, they looked at contact and non-contact forces. The students investigated non-contact forces using the Van De Graaf generator and bar magnets.

A Van de Graaff generator is an electrostatic generator which uses a moving belt to accumulate electric charge on a hollow metal globe on the top of an insulated column, creating very high electric potentials. It produces very high voltage direct current electricity at low current levels and amusingly, made our students' hair take on a life of its own!

Much enjoyment was had and it allowed for our youngest students in the Senior School to use key equipment and resources as well as making for some fantastic photo opportunities.
