Danish Students visit Kensington School

On the 6th of April, the Eco-Committee had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know a group of Danish students from Frederiksborg Gymnasium located in Hillerød, who came to Barcelona to get inspiration for ways to make their school more eco-friendly.

In meeting them we became acquainted with their school, their ideas and how they manage to run a greener school and we were able to share ideas of our own; reducing food waste by monitoring the amount and quality of food served; educating students and teachers as to the correct places to put waste and rubbish such as paper in recycling bins or food in brown bins; setting up a second hand uniform shop…

Both our schools shared various similarities such as having a student-led committee that allows everyone to participate and take action, helping other students understand how to deal with waste and the online second-hand uniform shop (which Kensington already has set up and is running and that Frederiksborg is hoping to recreate).

They also explained to us ideas and actions they are taking on, possible due to their school size being much larger than ours. They had incredibly exciting projects in mind such as an eco-building that would use sustainable energy to run.

Later, we showed them around the school to make them more familiar with the grounds and we got to talk and get to know each other better.

With the sun shining in the blue sky and our excitement we spent a lovely morning with them until we finally had to say goodbye, exchanged gifts and take a few photos to remember the wonderful day.

Overall it was a delightful experience, we gained lots of inspiration from them and hopefully we were able to inspire them too! In the process we got to know some wonderful people and we hope that someday Kensington may be able to set up an eco-trip so that we can also visit other schools to learn more about their ways.

The Eco-Committee would like to thank the Danish students from Frederiksborg Gymnasium for their lovely gifts and ideas, but especially the teachers, both from FG and Kensington.

Thank you so much for this experience.
