Barcelona is our classroom!

As part of A Level Geography, students in the Sixth Form are conducting field work as part of their unit on urban geography.

They are studying the 'Superblock' initiative devised by the Barcelona city council. Over two days they will visit a variety of different sites around the city to collect data on the traffic management strategies in place. Students will conduct a variety of surveys including environmental quality surveys, traffic counts and CO2 measurements

The 'Superblock' programme leads the street transformation model for the entire city, with the aim of reclaiming for citizens part of the space currently occupied by private vehicles.

The goal is to create a healthy, greener, fairer and safer public space that promotes social relations and the local economy.

Our students will measure the success of the initiative and also assess the impact their creation has had on traffic, in particular on surrounding roads and arteries.
