On the 27th of October a group of A level Fine Art students in the Sixth Form enjoyed learning about the medieval world through the museum's Gothic Art collection as part of their educational programme; ‘Painters by Trade’.
The students found out what the profession of an artisan painter involved, what techniques and materials they had to know to create works as complex as altarpieces and what social consideration these artisans had.
They experimented with the processes and work techniques of the High Middle Ages through a practical workshop where they made a joint creation while experimenting with the stucco, plastering and the egg tempering technique.
The experience will be put to good use as they continue with their own projects leading to their final qualification.
