Early Years education at Kensington aims to provide our children with the best possible first learning steps. We strive for our children to grow and develop in a stimulating and safe environment.

In the Nursery class we focus strongly on three prime areas; Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development. These three areas reflect the skills and capacities we at Kensington believe children need to learn effectively. These three areas are crucial for igniting children's curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive.

We respond to each child’s needs through their interests, guiding their development through warm, positive interaction, both with their peers and with their classroom teacher.

Play is considered essential for children's development, building their confidence as they learn explore, think about problems and relate to others. Children in the Nursery area have exclusive use of their own play area with a variety of age suitable toys and games.

In the Reception class we create a lively stimulating atmosphere, using a variety of media in Art and Craft work in order to encourage and develop language and numeracy skills. We choose a topic each half-term and work on this to include the different aspects of the curriculum.

Parents are involved at every stage, and are regularly updated on their child's progress. The Nursery and Early Years Department works very closely with the school's Primary Department, to ensure our students have a seamless transition into the primary classes.

Children are provided with a range of rich, meaningful first-hand experiences in which they explore, think creatively and are active. We aim to develop and foster positive attitudes towards learning, confidence, communication and physical development.

We stress the importance of kindness and tolerance in the children's developing relationships with their peers.

We know how important it is that your children feel happy and safe in our environment, we offer trial mornings for all Early Years students to come and spend some time with us inside the classroom.
