Kensington Debaters continue winning streak

On Thursday 23rd February three teams from Kensington School were invited to Oak House for a return series of debates. At our last meeting, on Kensington premises, the home team won convincingly and on this occasion the school continued its success, winning two out of three debates in front of a large audience in the Oak House auditorium.
In the first debate “That This House believes there should be a maximum wage in Spain”, Kensington was ably represented by a team from Form 2: Arkin, Matthea & Oskar. Although narrowly losing, our debaters showed their mettle by also asking very pointed Points of Information.

The second debate was won by our team from Form 3, whose speakers defended the motion “That this House believes the West should stand up to Putin”. The debaters were Robin, Vasilisa and Daria.

The final debate saw Form 4 debaters Emma, Eva and Sofya win in opposing the motion “That anyone in BCN should be allowed to rent out their home on Air BnB”.
Sofya was also declared Best Speaker overall for Kensington School on the day.

Mr Verma, from Oak House, and Mrs Perigo, from Kensington, were joint-adjudicators and commented on the high standard of the contributions. Special congratulations were given to those who were speaking in an inter-school debate for the first time.
After the debates speakers from both sides were invited back to enjoy delicious cakes and drinks in the Oak House canteen.

Kensington now looks forward to hosting a return set of debates next Term!
